Monday Movie Maddness August 31, 2009

Posted by britunes2 in Uncategorized.
Ah, Monday. Nothing like the harsh, cold light of Monday to slap you in the face and remind you that you’re alive. And yes, my boss IS unexpectedly in the office today, thank you for asking.

After a severe movie drought the past few weeks (I know I’m not missing much, but I STILL
haven’t seen “Transformers”….) I caught up with some movies that were on my radar this weekend. The first was when I saw a preview Thurday night of “The Final Destination.”

Okay, so I had no interest in seeing this movie, so what who cares? The boys were all going and we were bringing drinks so I forewent my fear of scary movies and joined in the festivities. We all had a fantastic time, and I only covered my eyes a few (fifty) times. What I came to discover, is that during scary/gory movies I turn into a loud black girl. Basically I turn into the black girl from “Scary Movie.”

It was a lot of me going “Ooh gurl, watch out!” “Oh hell no!” “Oh mah GAWD!” Fun times had by all….well….except for the people who died freak accidents in the film. I bet they didn’t love it too much.
Friday night was a VERY successful game night in which the new boy attended and then Saturday was a day spent entirely on the couch. No gym, no errands, just hours and hours of “Six Feet Under” and old DVR. It was delightful. I made multiple attempts to hang out with the boy on Saturday and Sunday but he just wasn’t biting. I’m not sure if he’s lost interest or if he wasn’t in the mood to hang out or do anything or what but…it leads me confused to say the least. Of course I could just be paranoid due to my history and therefore sabatoging things in my own mind, but I’m going to do my best to leave alone for the moment. Good thing it’s moving week and I’m sure to be a busy little bee.
Sunday morning I woke up early and caught a showing of “Taking Woodstock” with Beaux.

It was a very cool portrayal of the time period and interesting to see the point of view the movie took, but it was just okay and about a half hour too long. As with many (read: all) other Ang Lee movies, it was quite slow and I kept getting distracted by the homeless man who had snuck into the theater to snore at us all during the entire movie.

And I thought I was bad.

After that movie I snuck into “The September Issue” with Eric and Tom. Scandal!!

There wasn’t much to the movie, it’s basically a very fun documentary showing what goes into making an issue of “Vogue.” I was surprised by how charming and unintentionally funny Anna Wintour was. I was also surprised by the lack of eyebrows on “Vogue’s” fashion director Grace Coddington.

Seriously!!! Where ARE they?!!?! Grace was almost as mayjah a character as Anna was – if you’re into fashion or print or “Top Model” I’d reccomend it.

Starting a new candy-free diet this week after going sugar crazy the past few weeks. And I promise this picture

has nothing to do with why I’m cutting out candy.

So my friend Vinny altered me to something called “Groupon” a few months ago. Basically I get an email with a special coupon to something in the New York area. It can range from spa visits to boat tours to beer tasting…really random. Well the Groupon for today is a certain amount off of some hair salon in the city. But there was something in the description of the salon that stood out to me. See if you can notice it.

And I quote: ” Usually, treating yourself to one of the world’s best salons is reserved for American television actor Patrick Duffy…” Really? Really? You talk about American television actor’s an the best you can come up with is PATRICK DUFFY?

I mean, I don’t know that I want to base my hair on someone who starred in a show called “Step by Step.”

Remember that show? That show was the shit but good LORD did they have a lot of characters on there.

What I also love about “Step by Step” is that looking back on it now, I realize that it filled more stereotypes than “The BabySitter’s Club.” For instance, we have the classic mom and dad, and we have

The hot jock who constantly get’s in trouble

The Ditz who never get’s the joke

The fat younger brother who never get’s an interesting storyline

The Lesbian

The nerd

The bitch

And the idiot. Who in actuality was quite hot. But MAN, back in the day I hated him so much….

Oh, “Step by Step.” You are forever timeless…..

Quentin, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I’m terribly upset that I forgot.

In addition to it being Chris Pine’s birthday, it is also another Chris’ birthday. A very, very special Chris. Special to me, and to all of the world. Oh yes. So Happy Birthday to you, Chris Burke.

Becca, get mom indeed.

Lea Michele……you know I love you girl. You KNOW I do. I mean, you’re absolutely amazing. You were phenom in “Spring Awakening,”

your gay husband is soooo mah boyfriend,

and in the three episodes of “Glee” I’ve seen you’ve blown me away in every scene you’re in.

But the eyebrows.

Girl. The eyebrows. You’re not Groucho Marx, you’re not Peter Gallagher. I know you’re not shooting at the moment, but control those things!! Don’t be gettin’ all Christina Aguilera up in here!

Speaking of…where IS Christina? Time for a new album, pronto!!

And yeah, that’s Page Six with Lea Michele. I’m not jealous at all. I don’t get jealous.

Finally….look who is on the cover of US Weekly….

Although, I’m very ashamed I watched “Kourtney and Khole Take Miami” and actually enjoyed it. Shh. Don’t tell anyone.

Shame! I’m Gonna Live Forever…. August 25, 2009

My name is Brian, and I’m a Pop Music-aholic. Before I admit my secret shame, please keep in mind that it pains me to hear this musician sing live and I kiiiiiiinda think she looks like an alien. That being said…..

…I’m a little in love with Taylor Swift’s new song “You Belong With Me.” At least that’s what I think it’s called. Maybe it’s “You Belong TO Me” or something to that effect but I care little to look it up right now. I heard the song for the first time at Spring Break Long Island Part 2: The Duel but the more and more that I hear it now….the more and more it grows on me. I’m so ashamed. Speaking of people who should be ashamed….

Miley Cyrus has a new song called “Party in the U.S.A.” What a completely riDICUlous song title!! What a completely RiDICUlous song and artist! What a RIDICULOUSLY fun song!

I know Miley, I know. I’m shocked too. You’re slowly finding a way to work yourself into my heart and I don’t like it one bit.

Why can’t I shake this suspicion that Miley and Taylor are conspiring together against me? Hmm…..

In addition to my Miley and Taylor shame, I have a food shame to share. Last night was a dodgeball night and, as always, we went out after. I’d had a protein shake late in the day so I wasn’t really hungry for dinner before (a few jelly beans sufficed) and didn’t eat anything after either. Needless to say, drinking on an empty stomach isn’t the greatest and can leave you quite hungry. I woke up in the morning and…..

…found an empty bag of beef jerky next to me. WTF???!!! Since when do I like beef jerky? Since when do I EAT beef jerky? I felt so guilty. I felt so ashamed. I felt a strange craving for more beef jerky.

Something I’m NOT ashamed of….

…is my love for A & E’s “Intervention.” That’s some good shit right there. I’ve worked my way through the episodes available on Hulu and was delighted yesterday to discover that A & E’s website had episodes available to view. Huzzah! What a lovely surprise – it’s like I’m walking on sunshine!

A & E provided me with another treat this morning when I was introduced to one of their new shows – “Hoarders.”

Basically it’s the story of crazy people who keep all kinds of shit and have their houses look like this:

I’m telling you, pure brilliance. This is sure to provided hours of mindless entertainment. Thank you A & E. Thank you for everything.
People – Mika. New York. October 16th. Who’s with me??!!!
